Robot Wars

Once again this year the University of Greenwich hosted a weekend of events as part of the Robot Wars tour.  

It was great to see some of our newly arrived students there. I trust they all feel like they've had a good welcome to the Medway campus!

My camera wasn't good enough to take photos in the low lighting used at the event (if anyone has anything better do please email me a couple of pics).

I did, however, get my photo taken with R2-D2 from Star Wars!

 

And finally, our very own university robot is my new best friend because he guessed my age as 15 years younger than I actually am.

Bric-a-Brac Sales

Throughout the year we gather and sell a range of good quality, second-hand household items for students; especially those arriving from overseas with few of the items they really need for their year or more here.

We would like to thank all those local churches and university staff members who donate items; as well as the students themselves who return usable items when they go home.  We'd also like to thank the University of Greenwich for the storage space they give us; though with the success of this service we are definitely fast out-growing this space now.

Over the past two weeks we have raised £153.64 which will be fed back to the students in the form of tea and cake through our weekly World Cafe.

Welcome & Orientation

This past week has been filled with new faces and an abundance of questions. Now begins the task of trying to remember the names that go along with those faces.

Monday and Tuesday were filled with the opportunity to get to know each other and take in all sorts of information. It's often a lot to take in and no doubt students will be back with more questions in the coming days.



 

On Wednesday students toured the local area and spent an afternoon in historic Rochester. Then on Friday I escorted them up to the Greenwich Campus (unfortunately in the pouring rain).

Postcard Challenge

Over the summer months both current and former students have been sending me postcards from their home nation or places they have visited over the summer. All of those cards are proudly displayed in my kitchen but I thought you might like to see them.

I have to confess that these two I sent to myself because they are places I visited personally; but they count because those visits involved students :-)
