Picnics and Birthdays

Sooooooooo, wonderful to be able to host people in the garden once again. On Saturday, June 12th we had a lovely picnic with Pauline & Jon, Aiste & Basel, Jeff & Niduka, Ahmed, Temple and Manuela.

Having spent the vast majority of the past year 'home alone' it is refreshing and life-giving to be with people, enjoy intelligent conversation (mostly 😂). To laugh and enjoy each other's company.

In addition it had been Basel's birthday the day before  ...  a good excuse for cake 🎂🎂

Take Ten - Loneliness Awareness Week

View video:

Mother Teresa once said, “The most terrible poverty is loneliness.” All of us feel lonely from time to time; such feelings can be brought on by emotional, social or situational circumstances. Long-term loneliness can be detrimental to our physical, emotional and mental health. Hear what it means to acknowledge, identify and take action (with a few words of warning thrown in).

Postgrad Picnic

What a shame that the day our Postgrad Picnic was planned, was the ONLY day of the week it decided to rain non-stop 😞😞 Fortunately, permission was given to move indoors and use the expanse of the Student Hub.

Jeshuran, Dominika and I enjoyed several rounds
of Rummikub - none of which they let me win 😠

In total, thirty Masters and PhDs had signed up for the event and, it goes without saying, that everyone was super glad to be part of this social event, to chat and sing and laugh together. For me, it was good to see a few faces I've not connected with for a while.
... must get more social dates in the summer diary!!!

Take Ten - World Environment Day

June 5th is World Environment Day

The Bible tells us, “as you sow, so shall you reap”

Whilst Covid-19 has brought devastation to the lives of many, the effects on our environment have been positive - CO2 emissions and human mobility have been reduced, which in turn has improved air quality and encouraged a resurgence of a number of animal species. So, what lessons can the pandemic provide in regards to environmental action. Can this season offer us a turning point in our care of the planet.
