Battersea Light Festival
I think it's safe to say that everyone who came enjoyed our trip to the Battersea Power Station Light Festival.
For Jon, Pauline and I, Battersea Power Station has been an iconic London site.
Between the 1930s and 1980s, Battersea was a working power station which, at one time. produced around a fifth of London’s power. Throughout World War II it remained safe from bombing and, it's believed that both British pilots and the German Luftwaffe used the plumbs of steam as a guide.
In 1980 the site was award Grade II listed status, and was closed in 1983. It wasn't until 2012 that the site was purchased and plans put in place to redevelop the whole area, with construction taking place both inside and outside the shell of the power station. For those of us who have loved this site, it was wonderful to see how the architects have kept some of the integral features of the building.
Everyone had a few hours to explore the shopping centre, before we met up to visit each of the Light show features. To add to our wonderful day, Akhil, who has just completed his MSc year in industry, came to hang out with us.
Two of the light features were indoor, the remainder dotted around the outside of the power station. Sadly, this is purely my personal opinion and I apologise to the artists themselves, I found the light festival ... under-whelming!!

This was entitled 'Aurora', but Jon re-named it 'shower curtain'. |

'Spider' was the other indoor feature. |
I liked the 'ball of wool' but, somehow, wish it had been bigger.
