PhD Christmas Cafe

Today I enjoyed meeting up with a number of our Medway Postgrad students for their Christmas Cafe.  My job was simply to provide mulled wine and mince pies  ...     not too arduous a challenge.

A number of people joined in the 'secret santa' gift exchange; and I received this lovely candle. Simply love the wording and hope that it describes my life.  If this was a scratch and sniff blog you'd be able to enjoy the beautiful smell too :-)

A number of students also entered our Great PhD Bake-Off.  Sadly, Mary Berry wasn't free to come and judge so it was all very democratic with each person being allowed three votes.

The tension mounts and the nation holds it's breath as Sona and Martin prepare to announce the winners ...

In third place, was Danilo with his Italian rice dish (not strictly 'baking' but a home-made creation in it's own right).
In second place, was Aiste with her Basbousa. Oh dear, too much coconut for me :-(
Drum roll please  ...

And the winner of the 2016 Great PhD Bake-Off is ... SIJI with this most beautiful and scrumptious cake (take that Mary Berry!!!)

All in all, it was just a great time to get to know people better and relax away from the office ...
