TABLEtalk has got off to a great start, with 28 students attending each of the past two weeks. 'Survival of the Fittest' was our topic last Thursday and the evening began with groups doing our NASA challenge. I'm not entirely sure we had a good survival rate amongst the groups but fortunately none of them are studying space travel :-)
Following on from that students were encouraged to think about what they needed in place in order to not just survive, but to thrive during their time here in the UK.
There were the obvious practical things, like money, internet, accommodation and, for some, a visa
Plus, a need for appropriate winter clothing and to improve language skills
For friendships and a good sense of humour.
For some, the right spices from home was of high priority. For others, alcohol was a feature. Below is my image of English person plus alcohol ...
I was also pleased to see mention of the need to take care of your emotional, physical and mental health.
And finally, to never be afraid to ask questions when you're not sure.
