Pray for Nepal

"I know I can speak on behalf of all my friends, family, colleagues and other students when
I say that our thoughts and our prayers are
very much with the people of Nepal
at this tragic time.
We pray for all those who have lost loved
ones and for those still waiting for news.
We pray for all our Nepalese students here
at the University of Greenwich and also
at the University of Kent and
Christ Church Canterbury.
We pray for the practicalities of aid getting through
to those places and people who need it most
and we thank God for the response that has
already been given/pledged by nations
and individuals around the world."

St George's Day

Not sure I've ever known the World Cafe so quiet.  I think some students are still away and others have spent so many hours in the library that they've actually taken root.

If you didn't pop in you missed my new hat (complete with bells), Catherine and Frank serving up scrumptious scones, and our St George's Day quiz!!

However, it's not too late to enter as we've decided to carry the quiz over the next couple of weeks.
Collect your quiz sheet from Lynne either at TABLEtalk or the World Cafe ... complete and hand back to Lynne before Wednesday, May 13th!!!

Bishop Gundulf Morris Side

We sooooooooo understand that this is a busy, busy season for students as they prepare for exams starting next week, but here's a little of what you missed ...

Despite the low numbers we had a fantastic English Night at TABLEtalk. It was great to welcome the Bishop Gundulf Morris Side who, after demonstrating several dances, gave students the opportunity to learn for themselves.

We were all impressed with how quickly Tashfeen & Aiste learned
the intricate moves of one of the sword dances. See video link below ...

Rather concerned about what they're doing
to my dear friend, Aiste :-(

As for me, I've definitely found my calling!!

A Thought for Today

I've had a lovely day. Was speaking at Emmanuel Church this morning about ministry amongst students but also about how God speaks to us.

BIG THANK YOU to Alan & June, one of our host families, who then invited me to lunch  ...  scrumptious roast lamb dinner, followed by fruit crumble (two of my most favourite things).
Here's Alan with his model of the Lloyds of London building where he used to work.

The English Festival

Shukurat, me, Ikechi, Aiste, Flavian, Daniel, Mohammad & Benoit
Had a very pleasant few hours at the English Festival, learning all about Pearly Kings & Queens, an organised charitable tradition of working class culture in London.
Enjoying the beach ...
Watching sheep dogs herding geese ...
Exploring tractors ...
Medieval culture ...
and trying to escape giant pigeons ...

The students also walked through the park to explore the river ...

Explore Medway Bus Tour

Thanks to those who joined me for the interesting and inform-ative tour of Medway today.
Very happy the weather was in our favour :-)

From the top of an open double-decker bus, Medway looked quite attractive ...

Much to the amusement of the students this was the first time I've ever been to Chatham bus station ... just had to take a pic :-)

On a personal note ...

I've just had a lovely week off visiting my family.
Coffees galore with my Dad, coffee with my niece, coffee with my sis-in-law, lunch with bro & sis(-in-law) and lunch with my nephew and family ... what more does a holiday need to consist of :-)

Proud Grandpa Tony looks after Jonah,
whilst mum & dad have a much needed kip ...
Great Grandad gets a look in too :-)

Easter Bring & Share

A lovely get together with friends and students; searching the house for mini Easter eggs and enjoying a feast of chilli, pizza, stir-fry and much, much more, including a plethora of scrumptious desserts.

By the way ... did you know that 'desserts' is 'STRESSED' spelt backwards, there must be some hidden meaning in that!!
