On January 17th, 1899 a French man broke the land-speed record at the overwhelming speed of almost 66 mph (106 kph). On October 15th, 1997 at Black Rock Desert, USA the British broke the world land-speed record at a total of 763 mph (1227 kph).
A mock-up of the Bloodhound SSC was recently at the University of Greenwich for several days. The car has been designed to set a world land-speed record of 1,000 mph potentially in 2016.
