Where are they now? Souad

My name is Souad Hamade, Lebanese/Canadian. I graduated from the University of Greenwich class of 2018 with an MSc in Formulation Science. To be honest no words can describe the beautiful experience living in the UK has offered me.  People were very friendly and welcoming especially the Chaplain, Lynne Martin, who opened up her home to us international students. One of my favorite trips at Medway Campus was to Hever Castle and Gardens. It was a hot, sunny, and well spent day with amazing people.  We got to visit the castle, attend a jousting festival and enjoyed canoeing in the middle of the lake near the Italian garden. I can’t say I don’t miss TABLEtalk, World Cafe, Sunday lunch or any of the activities Lynn planned to keep us entertained besides just studying. So thank you Chaplain for all the love and support you have given me up until this day when I’m far away. 

Thank you to all the professors at Medway especially Dr. Milan, my supervisor, mentor and friend who believed in me and all the work I have done. My classmates, who made each day fruitful in England, I miss you and can’t wait for our next reunion. I definitely consider I have made friends for life and would love to move back permanently.

After my graduation I moved back to my home country and immediately got hired as a Brand Ambassador at Beesline cosmetics in Lebanon. It’s a local 26 years old company manufacturing only naturally based bee by products. Currently we operate in more than 30 countries worldwide giving Beesline its international image that it deserves. 

It’s super fun to work with Beesline and to share my passion in cosmetics with others. It’s very important to educate people that the more natural, the better it is for your skin not to be in contact with harsh chemicals. 

On the long run I hope to prosper in my domain as a cosmetic pharmacist and open up my own business. I advise everyone to follow their hearts and do what they want because if you don’t love your job, you won’t excel in life.

Gone ... but not forgotten

Over the past week we have said our formal goodbyes to two highly thought of members of staff.

Saturday, March 7th I attended 'Toby's Last Hurrah', along with several other staff members. Toby was a valued member of the University of Greenwich who sadly lost a battle with cancer.
The 'service' was a wonderful blend of testimonies from family, friends and work colleagues, along with some of Toby's favourite pieces of music. And to follow ... no sausage rolls and cucumber sandwiches for Toby ... enter the fish 'n' chip van :-) 
Our thoughts and prayers are with Toby's wife and daughter, and all his family and friends at this time.

Yesterday, March 9th, I had the honour of facilitating a memorial service for Gerardo, a esteemed member of University of Kent staff. Gerardo's death, just before Christmas, came as a shock to many. I didn't know him personally but some of the words used to describe him have been: hard-working, generous, creative, inquisitive, caring, inspirational, and so the list went on :-)
It was lovely to have Gerardo's sister, Laura, join us via skype. My hope and prayer is that our time of memorial honoured Gerardo well and was a step in the healing process for those left behind.

Managing exams well

Exam season is just around the corner, but DON'T PANIC! There are some simple practical steps that you can take to help you through what can become a stressful time.

University Mental Health Day

Today is University Mental Health Day and, here at the Medway Campus, we had a great event in the Drill Hall Library, helping students to think about their own well-being and how they can take care of themselves well.












There was colouring, massage, nail painting, plant pot painting and sooo much more.

There was also a motivational wall, and here is some of the advice shared ...

They were all good to read but on a cold, windy, rainy day like today has been, this one was my favourite.

Bring and Share Lunch

Sometimes Bring & Share Lunches are quite manic with upwards of 20 people bringing food and squeezing in and out of the kitchen; but, on occasion, it's a more sedate affair that allows us to sit around the table together. Yesterday was one such day ...

We had sooooooo much food and I really over ate :-(  But it was all so very scrumptious.
Several desserts too, including Cecilia's lovely chocolate chip marble cake :-)

A MAHOOSIVE thank you to Joy who visited us for the day. Joy did her Masters at the University of Greenwich and is now in her final year of PhD in Bath.
