What comes to your mind when you hear the word 'sabbath'? The Hebrew word for sabbath means 'rest'. It's spoken of much in the Bible; however, whether you are Christian, Muslim, Hindu or no faith whatsoever, the concept of Sabbath rest is for all humanity. Taking time to rest and re-centre and re-energising ourselves body, soul and spirit. But what does it mean and how do we do this in the midst of lives that can often feel relentless?

Toxic positivity says things like: ‘keep your chin up’, ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ or ‘every cloud has a silver lining’.  It is usually delivered with good intentions but is sometimes laden with guilt. It's based around a misconception that being mentally and emotionally healthy equates to being happy all the time. What are the pitfalls and what can we do about it?

According to the UNESCO website, August 23rd each year is recognised as an ‘International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition’. Slavery has, sadly, been around almost since time began. Although slavery has officially been abolished, modern day enslavement is no longer centred around legal ownership, as it once was, but rather on illegal control. What can you and I do to help truly end slavery in our world?

Jesus often taught using parables and one of the most well-known we usually refer to as the Parable of the Sower, but I often think the story is more about the soil itself.
