Medway Campus Faith Space

What is Heraldry?

Heraldry is the way in which families and knights could be identified through the use of symbols and signs, either on banners, shields or seals. By creating crests and coats of arms warriors could be identified on the battlefield when encased in armour and people could be seen as part of a family.
It is a colourful way of identification full of meaning which has evolved over hundreds of years and is still used today.
It was not only the symbols themselves that indicated particular traits but the colours as well. For example, a lion stood for courage and a lamb meant peace and patience. A tree was a symbol of strength; a rose meant hope or joy. The colour gold or yellow stood for generosity and blue for loyalty and truth.

Here are some of the crests the students designed ...

Easter Sunday

My house is very topsy-turvy with packing boxes everywhere; so it was a very small group for Easter Sunday.
Good job I didn't have feeding of the 5,000 because my cooker was kaput :-(  The CO2 reading was so high it's been condemned and I praise God that I'm not brown-bread (dead)!!!

Happy Easter

On Easter Sunday, as Christians, we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is typically the most well-attended Sunday service of the year for Christian churches.
We believe, according to the Holy Bible, that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter.
Through his death, burial, and resurrection, we believe that Jesus paid the penalty for our sin, purchasing eternal life for all who believe in him.
Those who know me will know that my faith is an integral part of who I am. I don't want to even imagine where I would be or who I would be without my faith in the person of Jesus Christ. He has walked me through so many difficult situations in my life; when the going gets tough, he is the ROCK on which I stand.

Girl Power!!

Girls, thank you soooooooooooo much for all your help on Sunday. You are all such a blessing to me and I enjoyed our pizza and movie to round off the day.

On a personal note ...

Last week I was away five days at an annual Christian event called Spring Harvest.  Including the children, 27 people from my church went. The theme for this year was ...

Here are just  few of my favourite nuggets from the teaching we received ...

"Prayer is an extension of our heart attitude."

"An open world begins with an open mind."

"Unity is not uniformity -
it's about legitimate diversity."

"Unity is relational not doctrinal."

"We make a living by what we get;
we make a life  by what we give."
Winston Churchill

It was a long drive to Minehead (216 miles) but on route I met the man of my dreams  ... tall, dark and borderline handsome.

I got to share an apartment with my mate of 30 years - Pauline - and the lovely Rob & Katie.  We were just 10 minutes walk from a lovely beach.

On the Friday, Pauline and I had a lovely afternoon out. Firstly lunching in the Whortleberry Tea Rooms in the wee town of Porlock; followed by a beautiful drive to Lynton & Lynmouth, and a trip on the funicular railway.

Last but not least  ...  did you know that 2.4 billion people don’t have somewhere safe, clean and hygienic to go to the loo. That’s more than a third of the people on the planet!!!
By donating £60 to twin your toilet, you help those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.

On the move ...

Most of you will already know that I was recently offered the post of Medway Campus Chaplain.  With this comes a lot of change  ...  in particular, I have re-located to a new office in Pilkington 004, so do call in to say hello if you're passing.
My new domain is not just about office space, it's about our soon-to-open Faith Space, it's about hospitality, and it's also about re-locating and re-branding our Bric-a-Brac service.

At some point soon I will also be moving house, but more of that another time.

Little Shop of Horrors

Last night myself and eight friends went to see the Medway Amateur Dramatics Society (one of our many student societies) perform the musical 'Little Shop of Horrors'. There were a few sound glitches and consequently two of my friends missed out on some of the humour. However, it was an excellent show, some great voices, and sooooooo much work had obviously gone in to the whole thing.  I will definitely be on the look out for their next performance.
