Health Care in the UK

The medical care system here may work quite differently to your home country. It is vital that you register with a local GP (General Practitioner) as soon as possible, especially if you are an international student. PLEASE do not wait until you are feeling unwell.

To find a GP surgery near you go to https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-gp and enter your postcode.

PLEASE DO NOT go to the hospital for anything minor!

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Medway Campus Chaplain, or your student advice centre or the student union for further advise.

TOGETHER

TOGETHER is a touring  video, light and sound installation which will be at Chatham Riverside until October 10th, 2021. Created as a reaction to the isolation of lock-down, it aims to celebrate unity and love in the face of adversity.

As you might gather from the photos the weather wasn't so great ☂☂☂ So, well done to those who ventured out 😀

Rochester and Quiz Trail

We had such a great day out on Saturday (25th) at our Rochester Trip and Quiz Trail.

31 students from China, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Nigeria, Poland, Sri Lanka and the USA.

For many of our Indian students this was the first time they had been on a British train  ...  which obviously warranted a selfie 😀

Our day began with our Quiz Trail challenge, which took students on a nice walk all around the town. Along the way they had to find buildings, read notices, google and maybe, ask questions.  Sadly, once again, there was an event in the Cathedral so students weren't able to see inside.

Several of the Greenwich girls were the
first to complete the Quiz Trail

I was super excited that some of the students got to meet, Mike Billingham, the Town Crier of Rochester. Here he is in action ...

Rochester Town Crier

A Brief History of the Town Crier ...

Long before we had newspapers, television and the internet, we had the Town Crier. It was their job to verbally spread news around the town, especially as many people could not read. Town Criers were appointed by the King/Queen and it was an act of treason to attack the Town Crier, even if they brought bad news. This is where we get the saying "don't shoot the messenger".

"I would like to thank you for the trip. I didn't had any clue when I signed up for the Rochester trip. I wanted to explore and make some new friends. The whole trip was amazing ☺️. People from different cultures coming together, getting to know each other and spending time together, it was more than what I expected. I  made many friends and really looking forward for more such activities. I should mention the quiz trail it was lot of fun looking for clues and finding answers for all those tricky questions 😉. Thank you again Lynne for the efforts you had made to make this happen."  Shijo

Rohan made this fab video of his day ...

Take Ten - International Day of Peace

Take Ten - International Day of Peace

On World Peace Day the United Nations calls for a cessation of hostilities. But it goes way beyond that because it seeks solutions for long-lasting peace around our world. Yet peace is both external and internal, both of which are important.

Golden Ticket Gift Bags

Dubbaka, Shraddha & Goli were the first students to show up with tickets and big smiles 😀😀😀
Our hunt for Golden Tickets got off to a great start today. Not sure who was more excited, the 15 students who came by my office or ME 😂
