TABLEtalk Feedback

"It was truly an amazing evening. Before TABLEtalk I was clueless about approaching people from another country but after this evening I can say with confidence that I have made friends from different nations. This gathering has been a great experience and I thank you for the efforts you have put into this. Hoping to meet you guys next week!!"  Shri

TABLEtalk - Truth or Lies?

Many thanks to all those who have become regulars at TABLEtalk and WELCOME to those newcomers we've met over the last few weeks.

Our theme at TABLEtalk last night was TRUTH or LIES?  We played the Dictionary Game where groups have to make up a definition of an obscure word.  All made up definitions are read along with the correct meaning hidden somewhere in the mix. Groups then vote on which they think is the correct one.

If they guess the correct one, they earn TEN points. However, if team A guesses the definition written by team B, then team B are awarded FIVE bonus points.

Can you guess which of these is the correct definition???

1. YEET

**  an exclamation of excitement or approval, often made when throwing something.

**  the cry of an armadillo

**  to make fun of something

**  a slang word used in casual conversation as a sign of agreement

**  the act of raising your plass in celebration

**  to throw or push an object or person, or to move fast

2. GROAK

**  a fungus affecting leafy trees in the spring time

**  to grab and choke

**  to look at or stare longingly

**  to be jealous, angry or loathing, expressing negativity to someone

**  an individual of suspicious character

**  disgusting!

3. MUSSITATE

**  the process by which muscles of the jaw aid chewing and digestion of food

**  to overcrowd the mind with unnecessary thoughts and worries

**  to stop, to put off, to bring an end to

**  a state of being confident

**  to talk indistinctly

**  to annihilate or destroy

Every time we play this game I am amazed by the creativity of our students 😀😀😀

In addition, we had some discussion around what professions we trust and those we find untrustworthy.  This is always an interesting topic as students bring their own cultural experiences to the mix.  In general we all trusted pilots (thank goodness) and fireman; but politicians and the police didn't fare so well 😠😠

See below for the Dictionary Game results ...

ANSWERS

YEET - an exclamation of excitement or approval, often made when throwing something.

What Makes You Smile?

In conjunction with our World Mental Health Day this month, Chaplaincy and the Drill Hall Library partnered together to hold a photo competition entitled 'What makes you smile?"

This was open to all staff and students at Medway and entrants had to provide a photo, along with a brief explanation of it made then smile.

We had just nine entries ... so, a BIG THANK YOU to those who took part. Another THANK YOU to Rev Dave Stroud from CCCU who picked our winners 😀😀😀

1st Prize - Maya

"What made me smile in that picture?  My best friend, the answer is simple. This picture was randomly clicked by my best friend last month.  I was feeling lonely and stressed that time and I asked him to come over for one day. We had a great time together at the Strand and took a lot of pictures. On the way back, he tricked me by looking up train times, and I was disappointed that the day had come to an end so quickly, until he said he'd stay for another day, which surprised me, and the photo was taken right at that moment."

2nd Prize - Janice

"Story behind the picture: This is a picture of my pet Kiba. I captured this picture in August 2022 as this was the first time he brought the ball back to me. I often struggled while teaching him to fetch as he always took the ball and ran even more far rather then bringing and giving it back to me. I was so happy that finally my hyperactive pet had learned something I was teaching him from months and couldn't resist from clicking a picture and sending it to all my cousins who often came to play with him. Sometimes even the smallest things do matter and that's the reason I often click pictures of even the most random things because these random memories help me stay happy no matter what is going on in life, Just a quick look on this picture and hundred memories get back in mind bringing a big smile on my face."

3rd prize - Himadri

"I like the picture because the fascinating art conveys happiness without words"

Our other excellent entries, all of which made Dave and I smile in some way. Thank you again for sharing your images with us.

Thought for the week ...

More Well-Being collages

After the success of our first session of collage making, we decided to repeat this activity at our most recent Chaplaincy Chill & Chat pop up in the Drill Hall Library.

Abundant thanks for those who came and spent time out creating these wonderful collages.

Pizza & Games

Week four of holding TABLEtalk, on campus, as a face 2 face event; and we're going from strength to strength 😀😀

This past week we put discussion topics aside and simply enjoyed a social evening of pizza and games.

It was great to welcome Megha, Maya, Stephanie, Tobia, Janete, Marshitha and King David, all for the first time 😀

Make your own Well-Being Collage

These students treated it as a joint project,
each of them adding a little something.
Following on from World Mental Health Day on October 10th, the next day was spent on one of my regular Chaplaincy Chill 'n' Chat Pop-Ups in the Drill Hall Library.  On offer was the opportunity to make your own well-being collage, which proved popular

Maya and I had the same idea -
quite simply: BREATHE
Kathryn made this beautiful poster
Whilst Maddie based hers on the
Biblical account of Jonah
This is mine 😀

World Mental Health Day - October 2022

After several months of planning our World Mental Health Day at the Medway Campus was a big success 😀

Several external agencies joined us in Pilkington, along with Kent and Greenwich well-being teams to better inform students of the support services available to them.

As Campus Chaplain I also had a presence there, engaging in conversation about mental health and giving away inspirational bookmarks.  Our Well-Being Tree proved popular, well over 50 students wrote some well-being advice. Here are just a few ...

And here's my contribution ...

In addition, our Drill Hall Library hosted the ever popular Pets as Therapy dogs ...

Whilst the Student Union Hub was the place to get your nails done or a 15-minute massage 👍

For me, after many great conversations, the day ended with a live interview on KMTV (it starts at about the 45 minute mark).
