Culture Shock!!

What is Culture Shock?
It's the feeling of disorientation experienced by someone when they are suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture, way of life, or set of attitudes.
The 'W Curve' of Culture Shock is well researched and shows the adjustment process that many people go through when environment and circumstances change.

Is Culture Shock just about coming to a new country?   No - though it is largely related to those moving from one country to another, even moving from the 'culture' of the north of England to the 'culture' of the south might result in feelings of shock, confusion and disorientation.

I would really like to thank all those students who shared from their own experiences at our last TABLEtalk evening.  Several of our longer term students were able to talk not only of their experiences in coming to the UK, but also the 'reverse culture shock' they went through when returning home.  Thank you too to those new students who also talked about the cultural differences and things they have personally struggled with in coming to the UK.
I just love this picture :-)
